Doménikos Theotokópoulos (1541–1614), better known as El Greco, was a Greek-born painter and sculptor of the Spanish Renaissance. His powerful, expressive paintings incorporated elements of Mannerism, Venetian Renaissance into his native Post-Byzantine style. His innovative color use and distortion of figures are now considered precursors to Expressionism and Cubism, inspiring later artists including Picasso and Manet.
