"Engaging with art for me is like looking into my microcosm self and beyond. While painting, I set myself free from the grasp of everyday perception of reality. To my deep feeling, the world surrounding us, flows through a human prism, pours into a deep and vast pool of our subconscious, emotions and souls, giving us its humanly unique interpretation. In the interface zone between the two worlds – the raw world of 'things in themselves' as the artist feels with his senses and the known interpreted world, in an alchemic-magical-synergistic process, art happens. In recent years I integrate gold paint and gold leaves in my works. To me, It detaches the subject matter from the realistic context and elevates it to a metaphoric level. I want to grant a halo of secular holiness to human wonders, hopes and doubts , embodied in simple things like a flight of cranes or a shell lying on the seashore after sunset." -Daphne Horev
