Canvas Care: Fixing a Loose Canvas Print

When to Tighten a Canvas Art Print
Over time, the canvas fabric of your art print may loosen, causing a wrinkled appearance. This can be caused by changes in humidity, or if you accidentally lean something against it. But not to fear, there’s a way to make it fresh again! With just a few easy steps, you can repair your beautiful artwork in little to no time at all.
Step 1: Make Sure Stretcher Keys are in Each Corner of the Canvas
You’ll notice the red pieces that are already placed in each corner of the back of your canvas – these are your stretcher keys. While these are already here for your convenience, you’ll want to make sure they aren’t loose or haven’t fallen out. If they fell out when you received your canvas, make sure to save them in case you need them!
Step 2: Hammer the Stretcher Keys to Tighten Your Canvas Art
After making sure the four red stretcher keys are in the designated slots, it’s time to hammer them in. Make sure to tap them gently with your hammer – if you overdo it, you can risk ruining your canvas! Carefully tap each stretcher key in until you notice that your canvas is tightened; you might not even need to do all four corners. If you see the wood joint spreading apart, don’t worry – that’s exactly how the stretcher is supposed to work!
Step 3: Admire Your Newly Tightened Canvas Print
Once you complete those easy steps, your loose canvas is now renewed! Double check that it’s taut enough (but don’t make it too tight) and it’s time to display it again. Hang your stunning canvas artwork back on the wall and admire it for years to come.
