DeeLashee Artistry: Authentic Celebrations of Black Love
iCanvas is thrilled to offer prints by DeeLashee Artistry, whose portfolio of digital faceless art, family scenes, and pop culture portraits celebrate Black life and love.
Evoking themes of community, self-care and familial bonds, DeAnn Wiley — the Detroit-based artist behind DeeLashee Artistry — sees representation as the foundation of her work. Proudly sitting at the intersection of many identities: “Black, Woman, Queer, & (Dis)Abled,” she feels strongly about creating art with intention. “When people see my art I want them to feel seen, worth being the subject of many paintings,” she shared in an interview with the Michigan Chronicle.
DeeLashee illustrates the simple pleasures to be found in everyday moments. By blending faceless figures with nostalgic imagery, she captures the realistic, lived-in warmth of a space or the comfort of an emotional connection. From bubble baths surrounded by plants in the name of self-care, to celebrations of sisterhood and body shapes of all kinds, to the sweet nostalgia of summer play…Not to mention her vivid pop culture portraits that have gained praise from the likes of “Insecure” star Issa Rae.
Gaining inspiration from her own family traditions, DeeLashee depicts aspects of Black joy that are too often overlooked in art. “Traditions mean a lot to me … I remember helping my granny make rolls. Using an empty can to cut the perfect circles. It was always so many traditions, so many recipes, so much love to pass down.” Today, she continues passing this love down in both her art and through supporting Black women and trans communities.
Whether you want to surround yourself with relatable memories, embrace the faceless trend, or celebrate your favorite icons, DeeLashee’s inclusive array of soulful prints can speak to your heart. Click here to explore her full collection on iCanvas.
