5 Questions With Pechane

iCanvas artist Pechane creates black and white minimalist portraiture and landscapes. Using India ink, he puts his own spin on an Asian technique known as sumi-e to create shadowed, simple, yet poetic imagery.

Born and raised in the artistic city of Nevers, France, Pechane has created and studied different forms of art most of his life. It is through his discovery and respect toward Japanese culture that he began practicing the martial art of Aikido. He soon realized both art forms — Aikido and sumi-e — share commonalities of Zen philosophy and the search for inner peace. Drawn to these parallels, he approaches his work as an ongoing exploration of the meditative properties of art. “What I have learned over the years is that in my search for the perfect trait, my path has no end.”

We’re proud to offer Pechane’s work on iCanvas, and wanted to take a minute to introduce you to the human behind the art.
